Continuing our weekly series of historic rehearsal recordings featuring the Boston Symphony. This week it’s Charles Munch and the BSO rehearsing the first and second movements of the Brahms Symphony Number 2. Originally broadcast on May 19, 1951 and narrated by the ever-present Ben Grauer.

As always, not complete performance of the symphony, but a half-hour fly-on-the-wall glimpse of the orchestra at work.

Time to drag out your batons. Ready?

If you enjoy these weekly historic glimpses into an orchestra at work, would you consider chipping in a few bucks to keep the preservation work going? The Boston Symphony Rehearsals are only a tiny portion of the recordings featured on Past Daily and the archive they come from. It takes time and effort and a lot of hours to bring these posts to you. And we do it because we love it and want to be able to share them with you. So, if you don’t mind – since we’re a long ways away from our goal for this Spring Fundraiser, please click on the link below and make all our lives a whole lot easier.

  1. Gordon, donation seems not to work when abroad with Visa as a checking Nr is required (safety nr) by the bank and that cede nr could be only got when at home. I will make it for sure back to Paris early July…..

    • Many thanks! Everything helps to keep the project going and keep the site alive. It’s very much appreciated. Your support is beyond words.
