Over to Katowice, Poland this week for a concert by the Polish Radio Symphony, conducted by Jacek Kaspszyk and featuring the award-winning Dynamo Agata Szymczewska playing the Mendelssohn Violin Concerto.
Recorded last year and relayed by Radio Nacional España earlier this year, here’s what’s on the player:
Concierto celebrado en la sala Grzegor Fitelberg, en Katowice, el 8 de febrero de 2013. Grabación de la PR, Polonia.
1.BERNSTEIN: Obertura Cándido.
2. MENDELSSOHN: Concierto para violÃn y orquesta en Mi menor, Op. 64. A. Szymczewska (vl.).
3. (encore) MASSENET: Meditación de Thaïs.
4. MAHLER: SinfonÃa no 1 en Re mayor.
Orq. Sinf. Nacional de la Radio Polaca de Katowice. Dir.: J. Kaspszyk.
Coming in just a little over an hour, with Szymczewska turning in a very nice performance of the Mendelssohn, it’s the perfect antidote for a Road Rage Wednesday.
Enjoy.
That’s an absolutely knockout performance of Mahler’s 1st, isn’t it? Perhaps the best I’ve heard. Many thanks!
Thank you so much for the kind words. I’m always amazed at what keeps popping up and surprising me. Further evidence new knockout performances are far from over!
