More sad news – this time from the Jazz world with word that legendary Trumpet/flugelhorn virtuoso Clark Terry passed away earlier this week at the age of 94.

In all due fairness, Clark Terry had one hell of a run and a life jammed to capacity with pivotal moments and historic collaborations. He was the most recorded Jazz musician of the 20th century and his influence was felt by a vast array of trumpeters. In short – a life very well lived.

But it’s still sad when anyone of Clark Terry’s stature goes. And at 94 there may not be the chops, but there is certainly the experience to impart. Luckily for all of us, we have the treasure trove of recordings to remind us who we had in our midst.

This weekend, by way of tribute, is one of the many collaborations Clark Terry had with Bob Brookmeyer. This one by way of live appearance at the BBC in 1965.

There’s no shortage of great live performances with Clark Terry. This may the first of many in the coming weeks.

RIP: Clark Terry – no matter what, the music lives on.
