The Institutes – Enthusiastic reaction from audience and critics – all good signs.

The Institutes – in session for John Kennedy – Radio X – March 25, 2023 – John Kennedy X-Posure Program –

The Institutes in session, recorded just last week for John Kennedy’s X-Posure program at Radio X. Lots of positive feedback on this group. Just a sample of the enthusiasm for their debut lp, Colosseum via Backseat Mafia’s Arun Kendall:

‘Colosseum’ is a magnificent edifice of gold. It harks back to the golden age of guitars way back to the eighties and the nineties – The Las, The Smiths, The Stone Roses through to The Doves and Elbow: a sort of indie classicism replete with shimmering guitars, celestial melodies and an appreciation for the finer delicacies of pop music. This is a glorious debut. At times mesmerising and transfixing, and other times energising and euphoric: the result is something quite magnificent.

The album takes its name from the legendary Coventry nightclub, The Colosseum, inspired by the timeless capacity of such colosseums in small towns and big cities everywhere, to create interactions which evolve into life changing experiences and events.

Judging from this stripped-down session at Radio X, the review certainly justifies the enthusiasm for the band. Starting next week, the band will be embarking on a (mostly UK) tour with added dates for Festival season coming up. No word wether or not The Institutes will make an appearance on these shores, but I suspect the enthusiasm will be pretty much the same. They hit a lot of harmonious chords which translates into universal appeal.

Fingers crossed. We need them right about now.
