Usually, Nights At The Round Table is reserved for the relatively ancient stuff; 78s and 45s – things that haven’t seen the light of reissue or are just weird enough to demand closer scrutiny.

Starting tonight we’re going to do something a little different – instead of really old music we’re going to focus on really new music. Music that either hasn’t been released yet or has just been released by artists and groups that are either just signed to labels or not signed to anything yet, or are heading in the DIY direction.

Tonight it’s Roman Angelos along with Producer Scott Solter who have reimagined, with new mixes, Angelos’ 2022 album Music for Underwater Supermarkets. The new album Supermarkets, Underwater was released just yesterday (May 19th) from Happy Robots Records.

Two tracks; Entrance and The Underwater Supermarket are from the 9-track reimagined album. I went back to the 2022 release to listen for differences. There are a lot. I was reading press releases and reviews for Roman Angelos earlier album and the universal opinion was bouncy and Chill-Lounge. This new reimagining takes it several steps further into dreamscape, more ethereal and much more like earlier excursions when it was known as Electronic Music in the 60s. You couldn’t dance to it then – you were only mesmerized, bordering on bliss. Case in point – The Underwater Supermarket is a sonic meditation – a panorama of subdued color with flashes of brilliance dotting the landscape. It’s heady stuff. It would make Delia Derbyshire very happy.

I heard Roman Angelos is heading over to the UK for several dates in June. Joining him will be labelmate Rodney Cromwell, whose latest lp Memory Box is also out in June. Tickets for the London gig are available through Happy Robot Records.

I have a feeling if you don’t go you might regret it.

In the meantime, mull these two sides over and enjoy the weekend. More coming.

And while you’re here . . .you know we don’t run ads – stopped running them more than a few years ago. The ads were noisy and pretty awful and they were a huge distraction, having to wade through a lot of useless barking in order to get to the good stuff. But we still have to pay the bills, and there’s a ton of them and they don’t like to wait. And so we ask you consider becoming a subscriber and support all the stuff we do every day by kicking in what amounts to being an Americano Grande every month to be part of the solution and not the problem. In todays bizarre economy it ain’t much – but it means a ton to Past Daily. All you have to do (and we make this as simple and pain-free as possible) is head over to Patreon (that red box just below that says “Become A Patron” that you click on) and check us out. You can do 7 days free just to kick the tires and take a test drive. And if you like us, hit the subscribe button and become part of our rather haywire little family. Not bad, considering we just want you to like us.
