Two By James Clarke Five – 2024 – Past Daily Lunch Break

1. Gadly Groove:

2. Ghost:

New names and new tunes on the scene this afternoon. Well, not really – James Hughes (otherwise known as James Clarke) began his career on keyboards and vocals for the 80s band The Cherry Boys – he went solo after the demise of The Cherry Boys in 1984 and embarked on an adventure which kicked off in 2001 and is landing here, hot on the heels of his latest outing. In case you didn’t realize it, James Clarke Five is actually not a five piece but a one piece taking on the musical personna of five pieces (the joys of multi-tracking in your home studio).

The end result is a light-hearted, but concealing a serrated-edge knife, romp through his latest album, “Zoom And The Gadflies” slated to hit websites and stores on March 15 – and of course the other usual places; Bandcamp, Spotify, Apple Music and on and on.

To give you a taste of what you have to look forward to, come March 15 – here are two tracks from the album; Gadfly Groove and Ghost.

Reviews have likened his work to shades of Sunshine Pop. And considering the West Coast has been the site of miserable weather this last week, with more promising to show up later on this month, this might be just what the doctor ordered.

In any case – Press Play and give it a shot – and if it strikes your fancy, support James Clarke Five by picking up the album, the singles, a few eps and possibly some swag, if it’s around.

Okay, we’re at it again. Here it is; diving head first into February and Past Daily is still trudging along, looking for support. We don’t run ads so we need contributors to keep us up and running. Costs even more now than it did this time last year. But we’re still offering you the best of what’s in the archive – yes, this is all from our Collection (except the sessions and concerts – gotta give credit where credit is due – BBC 6 Music and Radio X in London and RNE In Madrid are essential sources of finding new music) but everything is the result of yours truly digging into boxes, climbing over shelves, falling into dumpsters. It’s history, it’s important and it’s yours if you want it. All you have to do, if you’re up for it, is please subscribe via Patreon (that little box at the bottom of this post) – click on it and you’ll be taken to their site where you can subscribe to Past Daily, let them know how much you want to donate – or check us out for free, test drive our site, as it were, and decide to become part of the Past Daily experience. Simple, painless and we’ll love you for it. Do it if you can and you’ll be able to download your own copy of all our posts and new ones as they appear. Kind of cool, don’t you think? But you have to become a Patron in order to do it. Think about it – no pressure – honest – really . . no pressure. But there’s this landlord . . . .
