Starting something new tonight – christening a new series, Night Session which will feature primarily new or recent additions to the music scene – helping get the word out, keeping you plugged into what is currently happening in this rather skewed world of ours.
Tonight a solo appearance on Radio X by Alexandra Leaving, recorded live on October 5th.
Alexandra Leaving is a singer-songwriter who normally fronts a four-piece band, but for John Kennedy’s program it’s just her and a Fender and a bag full of songs.
Taking inspiration from a Leonard Cohen song, Alexandra Leaving’s music is anything but.
Hailing from Shropshire, the now London based songwriter draws influence from PJ Harvey, Wolf Alice, Mitski and The Kills, carving her unique space in the indie rock arena.
Launching last year, Alex’s music has accrued over 55,000 streams and had support from BBC Radio One’s ‘BBC Introducing Rock Show’, BBC6Music, Radio X, Amazing Radio, BBC Introducing, KEXP and Apple Music’s ‘New in Alternative’ and ‘New in Rock’ playlists.
Alex and her band have graced the stage of London venues The Lexington, Sebright Arms, Folklore, Strongroom, and Signature Brew for Access All Areas.
2024 will bring the release of her debut EP, produced by Michael Smith (Wolf Alice, Noah Yorke, Slaney Bay) and mastered at Metropolis Studios. The EP explores the nuances of feminine rage and is inspired by the ‘Good For Her’ movement.
Short (but sweet) session, a little over 8 minutes. But enough to whet the appetite and look forward to catching live during her upcoming tour.
In the meantime, check out this session and head over to her Bandcamp site, grab t-shirts and pick up her ep.
As you probably know by now, Past Daily has been going through a few changes. Over the past several months we’ve been introducing new features and losing old ones.
