Taking a minor detour around our usual daily dose of news, history and things calamitous. If you happened to be around on this particular first day of Spring in 1962, you may have heard this program on the radio. Bing Crosby and Rosemary Clooney doing a daily show consisting of singing and banter in an all-around relaxed atmosphere.
Although the show is pretty much wall-to-wall music, almost none of the music on the show has been commercially available. As the story goes, the acoustics in Rosemary Clooney’s Living Room were so good, it was decided to record all the music tracks and not rely on canned tracks for their sources and just do the show from her house. Which, also according to legend, suited Crosby nicely.
It may not be your particular cup of tea, but it’s a slice of Popular history that faded rather quickly during the decade of the 60s. Network radio was trimming down to just a news and information source, and shows like this were rare commodities, especially with two legendary performers broadcasting a daily 20 minute program.
Okay – life was a little different then.
Take a break and check it out – the hysteria will resume shortly.
