Blackbird - in session NRO 2 - 2023
Blackbird – Further evidence the world is bursting with new, interesting and retro sounds.

Blackbird in session – recorded March 11, 2023 for NPO Radio 2 Music Cafe, Amsterdam – NPO Radio 2 –

Heading over to the Netherlands tonight for a session recorded almost two weeks ago by the singer-songwriter Blackbird for the NPO Radio 2’s Music Cafe program.

If her bio didn’t actually come out and say she was from Amsterdam, she just as easily could have been from Nashville, Chicago or Los Angeles. Her material and her band fairly burst with Americana and with sounds and sentiment closely reminiscent of early Southern California Country-Rock.

And so it probably makes perfect sense that she sites as major influences Nancy Sinatra, Sheryl Crow and Stevie Nicks. Blackbird released her self-titled debut album on March 13, 2020.
This included Tell Your Mama and the nostalgic I’m Like You, which both earned her a TopSong (song of the week) at the biggest Dutch radio station: NPO Radio 2.
The album also featured a beautiful cinematic collaboration with the Metropole Orkest.

After two successful club tours with her band, as opening act for musical heroes Sheryl Crow & Beth Hart, winning the Limburgse Popprijs 2021, Blackbird announced there’s a new EP currently out (as of February 2023), including the singles ‘Green Lights’ & ‘Built And Broken’.

Blackbird hasn’t been around all that long, making her debut in 2018 at Pinkpop. The lockdown from COVID did slow things up a bit (as they did for most everyone) but she’s been recording a lot and performing via outlets like NPO Radio 2, getting the word out and the anticipation growing.

It would seem likely a Blackbird U.S. tour would be highly likely in the near future – much of it would undoubtedly depend on word-of-mouth over here and perhaps airplay of her ep’s and album. Since the world is getting so much smaller than it was, even five years ago, none of that would seem difficult to do.

Have a listen and see what you think. Head over to her site and grab a few things .
