Blood Orange – like a warm blanket on a cold night.

Starting the week with a concert from Blood Orange – recorded live in Toronto by the CBC on March 17th of this year.

Very much appreciated – coming like a warm blanket on a cold night, Blood Orange (Devonté Hynes) did the first of two nights in Toronto, ahead of a tour that starts in Salt Lake City on the 17th of May and end on the 19th of September in Atlanta – with a sweep of Europe in-between, hitting several festivals along the way.

For all the people and critics who say the current state of Popular Music is at a dead-end, you haven’t spent any time listening to Blood Orange. He exudes a natural warmth, a healing quality that arrives in the right place at the right time. That’s not to say he’s someone new – he’s been around since the early 2000’s and in addition to his work as a solo artist, has also gained a huge reputation as a Producer, Songwriter and composer of note spreading across a wide range of genres, landing on ear-opening opportunities wherever he lands.

With five albums listed to his credit as Blood Orange (and nine additional albums as Devonté Hynes and Lightspeed Champion), he’s laid down a very solid career as voice and musical direction, not only of his own work but as producer for other artists.

All of this accompanying a concert of sincere and joyful work – to a crowd who is very glad to be part of it.

I would suggest a visit over to his website to check out what he’s been up to and what he’s up to now – not to mention picking up some vinyl, tee-shirts and the occasional hoody from his store.

In the meantime – dive in and enjoy – I think we can all use the time off from insanity . . . just sayin’.
