Cassia – Practitioners of Upbeat Indie

Cassia for Thursday Lunch – Recorded on September 21st of this year at the 2026 Sziget Festival in Budapest and recorded by Radio Hungary.

Cassia have grown a lot since I posted their first concert in 2017. At the time, they were one of the new discoveries as part of the BBC’s Introducing program. I thought they were an accomplished band, fitting nicely into that Upbeat Indie mode and how they were going to fare among the flood of new bands coming out on a daily basis was anybody’s guess.

Nine years later they’re still at it – gathering a good sized fan base in the process and branching as far as musical genres is concerned.

The down period associated with COVID and the subsequent lockdowns were speed bumps and could have brought demise, as it did with many bands during those rathe foreboding months/years. Fortunately for Cassia, establishing themselves helped weather all that uncertainty and they have emerged newly rejuvenated and improved (as if they needed any rejuvenating), stretching themselves creatively – putting a third album out early in 2025; getting positive press and impressive sales.

So naturally, they’ve been hitting the road – doing a tour, mostly with UK dates but heading over to Germany and France in November for some dates there.

In the meantime, have a sample of what they’ve been up to the past few weeks and head over to their site to glom on to records and swag.
