Dorota Kuszewska of Dorrr – a voice that instantly captivates.

When I found out that The Blind Suns had broken up, after following them ever since I first heard them on MySpace, I thought how tragic it was; their co-founder and lead singer Dorota Kuszewska had called it quits and was giving their latest (and last) album away to anybody who wanted one. A sort of postscript to a band that had endless potential but for some reason didn’t click with the audience. I only found out later that Blind Suns were still more or less around, but on something of a hiatus to give some space to a side project.
I thought that was the last and I’d never hear Dorota’s voice again. A few months later she resurfaces as Dorrr and was picking up considerable attention to listeners all over Europe. Dorota’s magnificent voice is still intact and as captivating as ever.
So far, they’ve issued three singles and a live ep – all worth investigating. Described on their Bandcamp page as ” a dreamy nostalgic pop influenced by the 80s synth sounds”. Maybe a little too broad a description for music and a voice that is, at once engaging and evocative. However, if describing them as “dreamy nostalgic Pop” means they get broader audience appeal – go for it.
All I know is, Dorrr is a delight to listen to and absorb and this session for Sun Radio’s Sun Music Addict Session fills the bill quite nicely. I listen to voices like hers and I am convinced we’re in good places, despite the current goings-on. Dorota Kuszewska’s voice is the healing presence and it doesn’t get tired over repeated listenings.
Fall by their Bandcamp page – bookmark it and check out what’s available. I suspect a full length album is in the offing pretty soon as well as the obligatory tour to promote it. Fingers crossed they make it over to this side of the world.
