Florence Road tonight – recorded on January 15th of this year at the 2026 Eurosonic Noorderslag Festival and broadcast by VPRO.
A lot of substantial and impressive talent coming out of Ireland, these past several years – recent additions to the lexicon are Florence Road, four women from County Wicklow fronted by the spellbinding voice and guitar of Lily Aron and supported by the tightly woven collective of Emma Brandon on guitar, Ailbhe Barry on bass and drummer Hannah Kelly.
Together they’ve created an engaging and emotionally charged atmosphere of sound and words -thoroughly enjoyable and best of all, setting the stage to want more and to keep an eye on.
A little background in case you haven’t heard Florence Road yet (Thanks to the Rock Werchter Festival bio for the info).:
Florence Road was formed by four childhood friends in Bray, County Wicklow. The members began writing and performing music together in a garden shed and initially attracted attention through fisheye lens performance videos shared on social media.
Florence Road takes its name from a street in Bray, an Irish coastal town just outside Dublin. It’s where the members of the band went to school and spent their formative years. The four girlfriends would regularly hole up in a garden shed to jam, building a repertoire that moves effortlessly from grunge to indie rock and alt-pop. Their songs tell stories about the frustrations and awkwardness of growing up – always with a healthy dose of humour. Quickly embraced by Dublin’s vibrant music scene, the band made a rapid leap from TikTok cover videos to opening slots for major acts like Olivia Rodrigo and sombr. With their 2025 EP Fall Back, Florence Road are already being hailed as the natural heirs to The Cranberries. Frontwoman Lily Aron’s raw, grainy vocals inevitably draw comparisons with the late Dolores O’Riordan.
