I was reminded by a reader from my old site of many years that most of the concerts I ran prior to June 2012 are no longer available – and if they are, they sound pretty bad.
So, in answer to my friend’s request to repost some of those old concerts, I’m starting off this week with a 2010 concert featuring The Gothenburg Symphony, guest conducted by the ever-popular Gustavo Dudamel.
This concert was broadcast live by Sveriges Radio on June 3, 2010 and features the orchestra in two works: The Serenade For Strings by Wilhelm Stenhammer and the Symphony Number 5 by Dmitri Shostakovich. The Stenhammer is probably not familiar to a lot of people, for absolutely no good reason – it’s a gorgeous piece of music and Conductor and Band do it wonderful service. The Shostakovich 5th is probably one of the most played and subsequently most familiar of the Shostakovich symphonies. Again, Conductor and Band do the piece wonderful service.
So press Play and enjoy – you’re over the Hump now!
As you probably know by now, Past Daily has been going through a few changes. Over the past several months we’ve been introducing new features and losing old ones. We’ve begun to run ads, only because we really need the income in order to stay online and hope this isn’t a problem. Of course, if you consider subscribing and becoming a Patron via Patreon, you get the posts ad-free and the option to download all the audio we post here – our way of saying thank you for your support and to help you build your own archive. Joining Patreon is easy and we’ve made it even easier for you by offering you a free trial to kick the tires, as it were. All you have to do is click on the red box just below, the one that says Become A Patron, and be part of the family. You can support us one time or forever; your choice. We’ll be offering more perks as time goes on – but we need to get stable first and we can only do that with your support. So do everybody a favor and join us – we’d love to have you!
