Today is the first official day of Baseball season. No doubt, a lot of people have “called in sick” today and have headed out to their nearest ballpark to sample America‘s Great National Pastime and further evidence Spring has arrived.
So to commemorate that yearly ritual, here is a documentary produced by NBC Radio in 1951. Part of their Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow series entitled simply: Baseball.

So to commemorate that yearly ritual, here is a documentary produced by NBC Radio in 1951. Part of their Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow series entitled simply: Baseball.
It’s a historic look back at the game – with interviews and excerpts – featuring legends such as Babe Ruth, Connie Mack, Jackie Robinson and many others.
But bear in mind – it’s from 1951 – so a lot of the legends you may remember didn’t get started yet when this broadcast was aired.
But Baseball has been around for a long time and it’s history is as colorful as the game itself.
So, in case it’s still snowing where you are, here’s at least a reminder of what Spring used to be all about – for an hour, anyway.
Enjoy.
