Little Simz – “If you get offended by me, that’s on you”.
Little Simz – Live at BBC 6 Music Festival, Liverpool – March 30, 2019 – BBC 6 Music –
Taking a turn in the musical road this afternoon with a performance by Little Simz, from the 2019 BBC 6 Music Festival in Liverpool and broadcast live from the stage on March 30.
Little Simz (real name Simbi Ajikawo) is an English rapper, musician, actress and singer, who released her fourth mixtape Blank Canvas via JAY Z’s Life+Times website.
Simz studied at Highbury Fields School in London. She went on to attend St Mary’s Youth Club in Upper Street, Islington, where pop stars Leona Lewis and Alexandra Burke also attended.
After several months of auditioning by the BBC for the show Spirit Warriors, it was announced in June 2009 that Simz had been cast in the supporting role of Vicky.
In 2012, she joined the cast of E4 (TV channel)’s TV series Youngers as Meleka.
Simz is often nicknamed the Princess of Rap. She described her music as rap and experimental, with elements of rock.
She has performed alongside Estelle, Tinie Tempah and Ms Dynamite and at Rising Tide, ILUVLIVE, Industry Takeover (Urban Development) Hackney Empire, Somerset House and the House of Lords.
She can be heard on the Leave to Remain film soundtrack, performing the song Leave It As That. In early 2013, she appeared on BBC Radio 1 Xtra to discuss her performance at the Hackney Weekend.
According to hip-hop superstar Kendrick Lamar, Little Simz is the “illest doing it right now.” It’s hard to disagree: Her debut album, “A Curious Tale of Trials + Persons,” came out in 2018. The song “Dead Body” (a meditation on humanity’s inherent imperfections) peaked at No. 10 on the Billboard + Twitter Emerging Artists chart.
In case you missed it, here’s her show from the 2019 BBC 6 Music Festival in Liverpool.
