Back over to the French Radio transcriptions this week for a work by Claude Arrieu – Duo en Quatre Movements from this 1963 broadcast recital by Gabrielle Deschain and Léon Lacroix, flutes.
A prolific composer, who initially studied Piano, Arrieu became a prolific composer in her lifetime (1903-1990), whose instrumental works are considered her most important contributions, she did compose a considerable amount of Vocal, and Orchestral work.
Maybe not as familiar a name in recent years, but certainly the music of Claude Arrieu is more than worthy of seeking out and becoming familiar with.
This broadcast recital is only one facet of her wide-ranging and highly regarded output. And as always, ORTF (the French radio network at the time) preserved this broadcast studio performance, which I don’t believe has been commercially available, ever.
Enjoy.
