Tenor - Dexter Gordon - Ben Webster
Dexter Gordon and Ben Webster – One third of the Tenor Giants lineup

Diving into Sunday with a historic summit meeting. It’s been around – both on video and via radio broadcast, but it’s one of those milestone moments where so much talent was in one place at one time that it blew the roof off Philharmonie Hall in Berlin.

Every one of these Tenor players is a legend in their own right – Ben Webster, Don Byas, Brew Moore, Booker Ervin, Sonny Rollins and Dexter Gordon – with support from Kenny Drew on piano, Niels-Henning Oersted-Pedersen, bass and Alan Dawson on drums.

The videos that are floating around say the venue was the Sportspalast in Berlin, while this performance comes by way of Philharmonie Hall, also in Berlin – this is also a radio broadcast coming by way of WDR – so there’s either confusion or there is more than one performance, but needless to say it’s one that should be witnessed and wrapped up in and savored.

A good hour-plus to dive into and spend a Summer Sunday with – press play and let go.

As you probably know by now, Past Daily is going through a few changes. Over the past several months we’ve been introducing new features and losing old ones. We’ve begun to run ads, only because we really need the income to stay online and hope this isn’t a problem. Joining Patreon is easy and we’ve made it even easier for you by offering you a free trial to kick the tires, as it were. All you have to do is click on the red box just below, the one that says Become A Patron, and be part of the family.
