Them Crooked Vultures
Them Crooked Vultures. – And talk of a second album.

Them Crooked Vultures – live at Canal Plus Studios, Paris – December 4, 2009 – RFI – Gordon Skene Sound Collection –

Them Crooked Vultures this morning. Variously referred to as The Millennium’s first supergroup, this get-together between Foo Fighters Dave Grohl, Queens of The New Stone Age‘s Josh Homme and Led Zeppelin‘s John Paul Jones grabbed all sorts of attention and headlines – and even netted the band a Grammy for Best Rock Performance for their 2011 single New Fang, as well as a Platinum citation in Canada for their debut album.

But as is the case with most supergroups, it was short-lived. After getting together in 2007, touring in 2009 and grabbing awards in 2011, they all went back to their respective bands and called it a day. At least temporarily. Even as early as 2012, Grohl was quoted as saying there was a chance of a reunion. That sentiment popped up again this past June, when Dave Grohl was again asked about a possible Crooked Vultures reunion during a radio interview. So, it’s possible they may get together again soon, or sooner – or sooner, rather than later.

Whenever it is it will be a welcome reunion for a band that got together for the sake of liking what each was doing and wanting to take it a step further. Doesn’t mean Dave Grohl will be leaving Foo Fighters anytime soon, or Josh Homme will be leaving Queens Of The Stone Age either. It means there’s a side-project with much good buzz attached – and there’s always room for that in the grand scheme of things.

But until that happens, here is a performance they did in Paris at the Canal Plus Studios on December 4, 2009. Small-ish crowd, but a wildly enthusiastic one. And an hours worth of some great work.

Crank it up if you haven’t heard this one yet.
