More 70s favorites tonight. From the treasure-trove of live recordings via WLIR in New York comes this gem from Elvis Costello and The Attractions, in concert at CW Post College in Greenvale New York on March 3rd 1978.

Some 36 years after this concert, Elvis Costello continues to be a potent force in Music. But this early period has always had a special appeal. Maybe because the energy and newness of what he was doing at the time was so appealing, and maybe it was part of a bigger movement that shook the music world up in the late 1970s.

Whatever it was, Elvis Costello during this formative period in his career hasn’t aged a bit in retrospect, and still sounds as fresh and urgent as ever.

Coming in at 50 minutes, it’s a non-stop tour deforce of his early hits and gives ample proof the late 70s were on to something.

In true Costello spirit, pump it up and let the room shake a bit.

Does a world of good.
