St. Vincent
St. Vincent – magic moments

St. Vincent tonight – recorded live from the Goya Black Paintings Room at the Prado Museum in Madrid on October 22 of this year.

A special session that was broadcast, not only on RNE Radio 3 Extra but also RTVE in High Def. The session and location were special, since St. Vincent has recorded an album of Spanish versions of her songs as an appreciation to her Spanish-speaking fans as well as feeling a special kinship around the paintings of Goya.

Here are some notes translated from RNE Radio 3 Extras website:

The iconic hall that houses Goya’s Black Paintings has been the setting for this exclusive and unrepeatable performance. St. Vincent has brought to the gallery some of the songs from her acclaimed latest album, ‘ All Born Screaming ‘, and has recalled fan favorites from her previous works ‘ Daddy’s Home ‘ and ‘ Masseduction ‘.

Radio 3 Extra, Radio 3’s audiovisual platform, has produced this program using 4K technology, capturing the rich colour palette of Goya’s iconic works in all their splendour. The Prado Museum’s Black Paintings room , a delicate and meaningful space, has influenced every aspect of the production, making it a true audiovisual gem that perfectly complements the profound emotional charge of St. Vincent’s music.

The haunting darkness surrounding Goya’s Black Paintings , along with the visceral energy of his strokes, served as a source of inspiration for St. Vincent and his visual collaborator Alex Da Corte in creating the powerful imagery of ‘ All Born Screaming’ . The use of black and white, punctuated by dramatic flames, accurately reflects the intense emotional range of this album.

In selecting the songs for this unforgettable performance, St. Vincent has considered this play of contrasts and its link to the great themes of existence: birth, death and rebirth. From her recent ‘ All Born Screaming ‘, Annie Clark has chosen ‘ Hell Is Near ‘, ‘ Violent Times ‘ and ‘ Flea ‘. Her performance also includes two standout pieces from her most recent albums: ‘ Somebody Like Me ‘, taken from Daddy’s Home, and a modern classic like ‘ New York ‘, taken from her acclaimed LP ‘ Masseduction ‘.

In a word; spellbinding – but do we expect anything less from St. Vincent – no.

Enjoy.
