It’s starting – yes, I think we’re seeing the start of Festival season (a little early, but . . .) – BBC 6 Music Festival, live from Manchester from the 26th to the 29th of March and it’s looking packed with great music for the next few days.
Tonight it’s Adult DVD – first band up. The charismatic six-piece are getting ready to embark on an extensive tour across the UK and Europe in support of 7 Foot 1, their latest EP. Through a consistently infectious and ever-expanding discography – including cult single ‘Bill Murray’, cosigned by the actor himself – and a series of shows with PVA, Warmduscher, Do Nothing, the band have developed a propulsive and hook-laden style loved by Clash, Radio 6, Radio 1, Radio X, Spotify’s Hot New Bands playlist and festivals like Left Of The Dial, Nuits Sonores and Beat-Herder.
Instantly pounding from the get go, EP lead single ‘7 Foot 1’ is another display of Adult DVD’s bold, locked-in charm that gets crowds moving. As frontman Harry Hanson shares, “It’s essentially about me being terrified of any horror films, or just anything scary. I went to see a horror once at the cinema and spent more time queuing for popcorn than I did in the screening. It was only a rated 12 too. I can count the horror films I’ve seen on one hand, not for me. No thanks.”
With a co-signs from Bill Murray himself, it’s no wonder that Leeds’s Adult DVD have developed a well-earned confidence. Now, announcing their upcoming EP, ‘Next Day Shipping’, the Dance-Rock collective are gearing up for winning over the masses across the Continent.
Over their brief time as Adult DVD, the group have become known for their relentless output of infectious hooks and grooves, plus a euphoric live show that could almost be mistaken for a club night. Whether tapping into their love for chorus-centric indie or the influence of acid-house floor-fillers, their core appeal remains consistent: undeniable humour; bold, danceable instrumentals; and instantly memorable songwriting.
