Something relatively new (and maybe here & gone in a flash) this last day of the week. Between You & Me, recorded at 170 Russell in Melbourne on May 17, 2024 by the venerable Triple J Radio in Australia.

Between You & Me formed in Melbourne. Having released two studio albums through Hopeless Records in 2018 and 2021, the band is currently independent.A hiatus was announced in 2024.

Vocalist Jake Wilson started uploading acoustic performances to YouTube in 2015. He was then approached by twin brothers[4] Chris (guitar) and Jamey Bowerman (drums); the band was completed when Jai Gibson (guitar) and James Karagiozis (bass guitar) joined after their band Sidelines stopped writing music. The band self-released debut EP Paper Thin in 2016, after which they toured with As It Is and With Confidence.

Between You & Me signed to Hopeless Records midway through 2017, and released the single “Overthinking” on 19 July 2017. They joined Trash Boat on the Australian leg of their 2017 tour. On 13 July 2018, they released their debut album Everything Is Temporary. The album was recorded at Electric Sun studios in Sydney and produced by Stevie Knight. Later in 2018, they supported Neck Deep on the Australian leg of their The Peace and the Panic tour and WSTR on their UK tour. The band released the standalone single “Famous” in 2019.

On 21 February 2024 the band released a single named “In the Middle”, and announced an EP titled Sh!t Yeah scheduled for released on 5 April 2024.

Following the conclusion of an Australian tour opening for Busted, Between You & Me announced an indefinite hiatus.

Indefinite in most countries roughly translates to: “split”, so it’s very possible this is the last offering by Between You & Me – a band we hardly got to know here in the U.S. But in the current climate of music and the uncertain nature of making a living, let alone devoting all your time to your calling, bands are coming and going at an alarming rate. Probably all the more reason to support bands you discover and like; go to their gigs, buy their swag, become their own cheering section. Helps you and helps them.

It probably comes as no surprise there are literally thousands of new bands/singer-songwriters/solo artists out there; all clamoring for your attention and appreciation. In a weird way, it’s making Art disposable. You are now presented with a dizzying amount of choices for anything to listen to. The problem with the disposable nature of things is that we’re talking about people here – people with hopes, dreams and aspirations – who have decided sitting back and being a watcher just wasn’t what they were put on the planet for – people who have something to say and are looking for kindred souls to say it to.

I know we’re all in different levels of broke – going to a concert is a close relative to buying a house for the amount of money you spend for two hours – and the future is looking grim. But we’ve got to support each other. Maybe that means less Starbucks, smaller sandwiches, eating at home – if it means the band you like gets to stick around and do what they do best and keep doing it, then it’s a given you have to support them. Go to their websites (Like Between You & Me’s website) and show whatever support you can.

Means the world – and yeah, it does mean the world.

Crank it up – go exploring and show support. It’s up to you.
