Taking a lunch break today with an excerpt of a concert by Swedish post-Rock band EF, performed in Copenhagen and broadcast by John Kennedy for his X-Posure program on Radio X from May 20,2023.
Pretty much not known outside of the Scandinavian countries, EF started making inroads to a wider audience just last year with the release of their latest album, We Salute You, And You, And You.
EF formed in 2003. Their music centers around guitars and pianos, enveloped in rich layers of effects. The music can be described as a blend of cinematic beauty, melancholic introspection and dynamic rock, complemented by an eclectic mix of vocals, instruments, including strings, horns, and mallets.
With a catalog boasting 5 LPs and 4 EPs, ef has taken their music to stages across Europe and Asia, delivering close to 400 live performances. Their dedication to their craft and the intimate connection they share with their audience have firmly established them as a notable presence in the post-rock scene.
Prior to this latest set of appearances, EF did their last live show in 2018 and went into a unintentional hiatus. Some members decided to start families, grow businesses, buy real estate and put music aside for a while. When the pandemic came none of them could imagine that there would be a new dawn for the band. But 2021 the core members of the band decided to reunite and perform again. Gradually the band started working on new song material which EF decided to record and release. The result became the bands 5th studio album for release on November 4th (2022) through German post-metal powerhouse Pelagic Records (Mono, The Ocean, PG. Lost and many others).
In case you aren’t already familiar with EF, here is one of their 2023 concerts as heard over Radio X, May 20, 2023.
Rapidly closing in on March and Past Daily is still trudging along, looking for support. We don’t run ads (which you all hated) so instead, we need contributors to keep us up and running. Costs even more now than it did this time last year. But we’re still offering you the best of what’s in the archive – yes, this is all from our Collection (except the sessions and concerts – gotta give credit where credit is due – BBC 6 Music and Radio X in London and RNE In Madrid are essential sources of finding new music) but everything is the result of yours truly digging into boxes, climbing over shelves, falling into dumpsters. It’s history, it’s important and it’s yours if you want it. All you have to do, if you’re up for it, is please subscribe via Patreon (that little box at the bottom of this post) – click on it and you’ll be taken to their site where you can subscribe to Past Daily, let them know how much you want to donate – or check us out for free, test drive our site, as it were, and decide to become part of the Past Daily experience. Simple, painless and we’ll love you for it. Do it if you can and you’ll be able to download your own copy of all our posts and new ones as they appear. Kind of cool, don’t you think? But you have to become a Patron in order to do it. Think about it – no pressure – honest – really . . no pressure. But there’s this landlord . . . .
