Legendary Concerts this weekend. The Eric Dolphy Quartet, featuring McCoy Tyner, Reggie Workman and Mel Lewis recorded in Munich on December 1st 1961.
One of the pioneering figures in Jazz, Eric Dolphy’s influence on Modern Music has been inestimable. Having a profound effect on such figures as John Coltrane and Charles Mingus, his contribution to Jazz in the 1950’s and 60s are still felt, even after his death fifty years ago, in 1964.
Dolphy was also influenced by Contemporary Classical music, having been a major fan of Bartok, Edgar Varese and Stravinsky and much of that influence shows up in the his own work.
