You’re convinced – You turned 30. It’s all downhill from here. You’re not sure, but your hair is thinning – you found a fistful of gray yesterday.

What about that waistline – you’re porking out – you can feel it – your body turning into a mass of flab. Can’t tie your shoes – hunched over – sit ups are a thing of the past – gym freaks you out.

You’re forgetting things – you forgot where you parked the car – you forgot your keys – you forgot your first girlfriend’s name. You forgot what day it was.

You get tired – you get drunk – hangovers lasts centuries.

Worse. Your life – zero-minus.

Nothing you thought was going to happen, happened. No house – same apartment since college. A ’65 Mustang that runs on fumes. No career – Deadbeat job – no wife – no girlfriend – no prospects – no sideways glance – invisible. Can’t remember the last time you got laid.

Can’t pay bills – maxed out credit card – notices are red – mailbox is full – “Dear Mr . . ” letters. Asked for a raise – boss gives you a nuclear waste snort.

Ran out of cigarettes – can’t quit – tried – no willpower.

Hopeless.

There you are – laying in bed – staring at the ceiling. Awake for 30 seconds and the circus starts. Coffee – set on a timer – you smell Folgers. Clock radio – KMPC – you’re still in the 70s.

Fog lifting – Mood better – life ain’t so bad – 30 – just a number.

You have this brain – it goes places – they are not fun places.

Thank god for your radio.

Here’s 2 and a half hours of KMPC from January 10, 1980 to help you fall out of bed.

Can’t believe it’s 2024 already. Here it is, a new year and Past Daily is still trudging along, looking for your support. We don’t run ads so we need contributors to keep us up and running. Costs even more now than it did this time last year. But we’re still offering you the best of what’s in the archive – yes, this is all from our Collection (except the sessions and concerts – gotta give credit where credit is due – BBC 6 Music and Radio X in London and RNE In Madrid are essential sources of finding new music) but everything is the result of yours truly digging into boxes, climbing over shelves, falling into dumpsters. It’s history, it’s important and it’s yours if you want it. All you have to do, if you’re up for it, is please subscribe via Patreon (that little box at the bottom of this post) – click on it and you’ll be taken to their site where you can subscribe to Past Daily, let them know how much you want to donate – or check us out for free, test drive our site, as it were, and decide to become part of the Past Daily experience. Simple, painless and we’ll love you for it. Do it if you can and you’ll be able to download your own copy of all our posts and new ones as they appear. Kind of cool, don’t you think? But you have to become a Patron in order to do it. Think about it – no pressure – honest – really . . no pressure. But there’s this landlord . . . .
