A rarity that is most likely not all that rare, certainly to Jimi Hendrix collectors. A session the Jimi Hendrix Experience did for the popular Dutch TV program Hoepla and recorded by VPRO on November 10, 1967.
This is the complete session, with false starts, multiple takes and engineers who just couldn’t figure out the sheer power of the Hendrix sound. This is early Hendrix, and the world was just getting a taste of what was in store over the next few years.
Along with Noel Redding on Bass and Mitch Mitchell on drums, they play essentially 3 songs; Catfish Blues (2 takes) – Foxy Lady (1 take), and Purple Haze (4 takes and one false start). The whole session is a little over 29 minutes, complete with chatting and count-offs.
And as a reminder of who we lost, this day 45 years ago, a session from Jimi Hendrix with all the madness and mind-melting intensity we soaked up like sponges.
Lest we all forget. . . .
