Catalan singer/composer/musician Judit Neddermann in session for RTVE in Madrid on July 27, 2020.
I admit, with my head pointing to the floor, that I have never heard Judit Neddermann before – better late than never. She has over six albums to her credit and a lot of session work, collaborations, film scores, theatre scores – a whole treasure-trove of great music along with an unmistakably enchanting voice.
I am still fighting the age-old stigma over singing in another language other than English. We have to get past that – we’re missing out on a lot of truly wonderful music because we’re letting language get in our way. And access, infinitely better than it was even 10 years ago is still a ways off from instant-everywhere.
Judit Neddermann has recorded with artists such as Joan Manuel Serrat, Alejandro Sanz, Noa, Pedro Guerra or MARO and has shared the stage with Jorge Drexler, Andrés Suárez, Rozalén, Miguel Poveda and many more.
She has composed the music for two plays; the theatrical adaptation by Màrius Serra of ‘Tirant lo Blanc’, directed by Joan Arqué, and also the play ‘Canto jo i la muntanya balla’, a theatrical piece based on the novel of the same name by Irene Solà, also directed by Joan Arqué and Guillem Albà.
For ten years she was the singer of The Gramophone Allstars. She also had a long and close collaboration with the pianist Clara Peya, and carried out the joint project with the Brossa Quartet ‘Viatge d’hivern’. For three years she sang in the Iberian percussion orchestra Coetus.
She has mbeen awarded a Max Award, a Butaca Award, a Speaker Award, two Enderrock Awards, the Miquel Martí i Pol Award and a Descobertes Award.
Judit Neddermann was born on March 27, 1991 into a family of musicians.
Well, now you know – take even 30 seconds to sample the first song – I guarantee you’ll stick around for the next twenty minutes falling under Judit Neddermann’s spell.
It’s everywhere, music.
