On a crash course to end the week with one of the more overlooked bands of the Shoegaze era. Moose formed in London in 1990 and were a heavy part of the initial Shoegaze movement. With a guitar-heavy sound, and a wall of distortion, they followed in the mold of Ride and Lush and Chapterhouse.
They issued 3 eps in 1991 during their short tenure as a Shoegaze band. By 1993 they had a personnel and direction change, going more in the direction of Indie. Their first official album sold poorly, but they continued on, with more personnel changes. By 1995 the band called it quits.
Although they weren’t considered a commercial success by any stretch of the imagination, they have been credited as one of the initial bands of the Shoegaze era and have been cited by several bands as influences for their own work.
This session is the only one they did for John Peel at The BBC. Recorded on June 9, 1991, it features 4 songs, including their memorable rendition of Roxy Music‘s In Every Dream Home A Heartache.
Moose Guitarist and vocalist K.J. McKillop went on to become a founding member of the supergroup Piroshka, along with his partner Miki Berenyi (formerly of Lush), Justin Welch (Elastica) and Michael Conroy (Modern English).
