Mustang
Mustang with a much anticipated fifth album and a growing audience.

Over to Paris tonight for a session from one of the heavily observed up-and-comer bands in France at the moment; Mustang.

A group apart in the French musical landscape, Mustang merges its influences, its unique verve and its energy via their latest release “Mégaphénix”, another surprising album that’s been getting considerable buzz and sessions of late.

From their beginnings in the Clermont-Ferrand region of France in the mid-00s to today, Mustang has remained passionate and a rock communicator. Their new album comes out on Friday amid much anticipation from the Press as well as the audience.

The band’s name evokes both the wild and untamable spirit of the Mustang horse and the famous American car, symbolizing a love for rock’n’roll and Anglo-Saxon culture. Mustang is a French rock trio formed in 2006 in Clermont-Ferrand, raised on the sounds of the Ramones, Pixies, Stooges, and the Velvet Underground. The band has changed drummers, but retains its taste for writing real and highly evocative songs.

With MEGAPHENIX, their 5th album, Mustang offers their most varied and surprising work to date, in Je ne suis pas aimé, there is a bit of Michel Legrand in the composition, pure genius with this subtle contrast between the chords and the lyrics, carried by a sweet tandem, guitar-voice, like a soothing ballad, pure Mustang: a mashup of nostalgia and modernity, raw rock and poetic song.

Freedom, creativity, and a shared passion for authentic rock, while maintaining their own voice, never copying or leaning heavily on any one genre, Mustang is a band apart, driven by the joy and pride of writing good songs. On a Latin guitar theme, Mustang even gives birth to ” Steve Jobs “.

Steve Jobs is the first track recorded for this 5th album. Jean Felzine confides “Steve Jobs gave birth to our era, essentially for the worst. I actually sometimes look at my phone while it’s charging like an evil entity, a sleeping wild beast dreaming of bloodbaths. Of course, we’re the hyenas: scavengers lurking in 2.0, we’re biding our time!”

While you’re busy biding, press play for a taste of Mustang from their session for Oui-FM in Paris on November 29, 2024.
