My Chemical Romance
My Chemical Romance – goth-tinged and confessional. Works for me.

My Chemical Romance, for this Saturday after Thanksgiving – recorded at the 2011 Reading Festival by the always present BBC 6 Music.

With the news earlier today of the death of former MCR drummer Bob Bryar, who was with the band from 2004 to 2010, it occurred to me that there are virtually no My Chemical Romance concerts on Past Daily, and even though this concert features his replacement Jerrod Alexander, you could still consider this something of a tribute and the loss of another musician before his time. Although at the moment (November 30, 2024) there is no other news as to the cause of death, aside from grisly depictions of the scene of death, still a loss is a loss and Bryar’s contribution is inestimable.

A little background on Bob Bryar from Wikipedia:

Bryar joined the band in 2004 replacing former drummer Matt Pelissier during a tour in Japan which was held shortly after the release of their second studio album Three Cheers for Sweet Revenge (2004). He performed on all of the subsequent releases in support of the album, as well as the band’s commercially successful concept album, The Black Parade (2006). Despite suffering numerous injuries while on tour, Bryar continued to tour with the band and joined them in the studio to record their fourth studio album before departing from My Chemical Romance in 2010. His final contribution was performing on the band’s final release before their disbandment in 2013, Conventional Weapons. After his departure from the band, Bryar became a behind-the-scenes figure in tours for several bands before retiring from music in 2014. He subsequently became a real estate agent and an active supporter of dog rescue charities and sanctuaries.

In January 2020, My Chemical Romance announced plans to present one, then two, then three concerts at Stadium MK (Milton Keynes, England), on June 18, 20 and 21, 2020, as tickets for each day sold out within minutes. Later in the month, the group premiered a cryptic video on YouTube which ended by announcing a North American tour. The North American shows went on sale on January 31, 2020, and sold out in less than six hours. Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, all of the shows on the tour that were set to begin in 2020 were postponed to 2021, including the North American leg. These tour dates were later rescheduled again to 2022. The tour commenced on May 16, 2022 at the Eden Project, and concluded on March 26, 2023 in Tokyo, Japan.

On May 12, 2022, the band released “The Foundations of Decay”, their first new song since 2014.

My Chemical Romance headlined When We Were Young Festival 2024 in Las Vegas alongside Fall Out Boy. The band performed their 2006 album The Black Parade in its entirety. Following the festival performance, the band later announced Long Live The Black Parade, a North American stadium tour in 2025, in which they are set to perform The Black Parade in its entirety.

Press play and get on with Saturday . . .and life in general.
