Pale Blue Eyes – In Session for Marc Riley – BBC 6 Music – May 16, 2023 – BBC 6 –
Pale Blue Eyes in session for Marc Riley at BBC6 Music, broadcast live just a few hours ago.
It occurred to me, as I was putting this post together and listening back to tonight’s session that I ran what I believe was their first session, on the heels of their debut album last September. Only that time it was a session for John Kennedy at Radio X. New band, good word of mouth, gigging around, getting the word out and celebrating the release of a debut album.
Cut to 8 months later and the word of mouth has grown, the positive feedback keeps coming and the gigs are now festivals. It’s really nice to see because Pale Blue Eyes are such a deserving band who have put in a lot of hard work to make it all happen. I guess that’s the secret – hard work. Gigging, getting the word out, not losing sight. And making fans like Marc Riley along the way. It says a lot about the work ethic. It also is a good part of the reason I run sessions by bands, especially new ones. To listen to the transformations, the growth and the growing popularity is a pretty joyful thing to witness. Doesn’t happen all the time, but enough times to make you believe that if you just don’t give up and you have something to say, things work out.
Anyway, it was a pleasure to hear them today, just as it was last September. The chops and the confidence are settling in – the self-assurance that they are doing the right thing is putting them at ease. Performance jitters are fading – I think Pale Blue Eyes are in it for the long haul.
Good one.
And while you’re here . . .you know we don’t run ads – stopped running them more than a few years ago. The ads were noisy and pretty awful and they were a huge distraction, having to wade through a lot of useless barking in order to get to the good stuff. But we still have to pay the bills, and there’s a ton of them and they don’t like to wait. And so we ask you consider becoming a subscriber and support all the stuff we do every day by kicking in what amounts to being an Americano Grande every month to be part of the solution and not the problem. In todays bizarre economy it ain’t much – but it means a ton to Past Daily. All you have to do (and we make this as simple and pain-free as possible) is head over to Patreon (that red box just below that says “Become A Patron” that you click on) and check us out. You can do 7 days free just to kick the tires and take a test drive. And if you like us, hit the subscribe button and become part of our rather haywire little family. Not bad, considering we just want you to like us.
