Salvana
Salvana – Further evidence we’re all in very good places.

– Salvana – in session at Los Conciertos de Radio 3 – RNE Radio 3 – October 3, 2023 –

Spanish Shoegaze tonight, compliments of Salvana in a session they recorded only hours ago at Radio 3 for RNE in Madrid. Putting a Spanish accent on Shoegaze seems perfect – taking the international language of music anyway, but putting your own stamp on it just makes it that a much more satisfying experience.

Formed only in 2021 (and no doubt right in the middle of the Pandemic and subsequent lockdown), they didn’t let the issue of being isolated become a barrier to getting the band together and honing a sound.

Comparisons are drawn to bands like Slowdive and Lush, which is fine by me – Lush was one of the pioneering bands during the formative days of the Shoegaze movement and Slowdive continue to carry the banner and are doing it wonderfully well. They also remind me, in the very best of all possible ways, the great and criminally neglected Argentinian band Suarez, whose enchanting vocalist the late and much loved Rosario Blefari draws comparisons to Salvana’s Laura Nuñez.

It’s not that I wasn’t expecting Shoegaze to become a genre recognized in Spain – what Salvana have managed to accomplish is add to the conversation by bringing a distinctly Spanish point of view to the gathering. It’s further evidence Contemporary music that is not in the mainstream is doing wonderfully well and continues to forge new paths and pave new roads.

We’ve gotten to the point in our musical journey that language is no longer a real barrier in getting an audience. Salvana should have no trouble gathering a fanbase in the U.S. and it’s hoped their management have the foresight to get their debut ep into the various radio and streaming outlets in the U.S. as soon as possible.

For now though, it’s a little over a half-hour of some captivating and compelling music that paints a soundscape of some rich and vibrant colors.

Press play – relax for the next half hour and head over to their Bandcamp page. It’ll be worth it – I promise.
