We can use all the help we can get:
Heading into a nicely mind-melting weekend with The Claypool-Lennon Delirium, recorded in concert at the Capitol Theatre, Port Chester, New York on July 7, 2019.
This is one of those collaborations where you find yourself asking “what took you so long?” – it’s the perfect fit where the interplay of just the right amount of weirdness and psychedelic mayhem make for a thoroughly engrossing experience demanding numerous listenings.
I mean, what can you say when a show opens with the classic Pink Floyd/Syd Barrett-era Astronomy Domine and makes it their own in the process?
This melding of elements from Primus and Ghost Of A Saber Tooth Tiger into The Claypool Lennon Delirium might be a temporary one though, since reading about a tour in 2019 to coincide with the release of South Of Reality it’s been quiet. COVID may have done its level best to put a big foot on things, but nothing is certain.
Sean Ono Lennon has since gone on to work with the UK Psych band Temples, producing and writing their latest single which has been getting a lot of audience buzz and signifies something of shot in the arm for the band, since they too had been laying low for a while.
I doubt very strongly this is the last we’ll hear of this gathering of tribes, unless it was purely intended as a side-trip and nothing else – in which case at least we have this gig (and several others which were, thankfully, recorded), two albums and an ep to dive into and keep us occupied until we hear more grumblings from The Claypool Lennon camps. Update: According to Les Claypool, another album is on its way, so not to fear.
Still, further evidence things are always happening and if you dig around you will realize there is a whole world of amazing music out there, just dying to climb into your head and screw around a bit.
Stay open and press play:
Can’t believe it’s almost February already. Here it is, a new year and Past Daily is still trudging along, looking for your support. We don’t run ads so we need contributors to keep us up and running. Costs even more now than it did this time last year. But we’re still offering you the best of what’s in the archive – yes, this is all from our Collection (except the sessions and concerts – gotta give credit where credit is due – BBC 6 Music and Radio X in London and RNE In Madrid are essential sources of finding new music) but everything is the result of yours truly digging into boxes, climbing over shelves, falling into dumpsters. It’s history, it’s important and it’s yours if you want it. All you have to do, if you’re up for it, is please subscribe via Patreon (that little box at the bottom of this post) – click on it and you’ll be taken to their site where you can subscribe to Past Daily, let them know how much you want to donate – or check us out for free, test drive our site, as it were, and decide to become part of the Past Daily experience. Simple, painless and we’ll love you for it. Do it if you can and you’ll be able to download your own copy of all our posts and new ones as they appear. Kind of cool, don’t you think? But you have to become a Patron in order to do it. Think about it – no pressure – honest – really . . no pressure. But there’s this landlord . . . .
