A world premier this weekend – this time from Sir William Walton and the first performance ever of his Cello Concerto, featuring the Boston Symphony Orchestra conducted by Charles Munch with the concerto’s dedicatee, Gregor Piatigorsky, Cello.

The performance was recorded live on January 28, 1957 – and from the sound of the audience, it was a howling success.

And if you wondered who played it first – here it is.

      • I’m glad you like – it’s hard sometimes, not knowing if I’m operating in a vacuum or not, and the kind words are so appreciated – especially on those days when I think it’s just the sound of one hand clapping. I just don’t want this stuff to get lost. I’ve spent my life collecting it and now it’s time to share because it does no good sitting in a large dark room. Just tell your friends – and I’ll keep cranking it out.
