EUT - Megan and Emiel
Tessa, Megan and Emiel of EUT – Extraordinary new faces on the horizon.

EUT – In session for Frequenzy – September26, 2017 – VPRO – The Netherlands –

Heading across the English Channel tonight. EUT are a Dutch Post-Punk/Post-Rock/Indie band who were together only two years when this session was recorded in 2017. Sadly, they lasted until 2023 when COVID came along and killed the momentum – they decided to pack it all in and look for other avenues and other endeavors.

There are bands that grab you from the get-go and there are bands you have to let sweep over you. I have to tell you, EUT did both. I was knocked out by how tight an ensemble they are – and how accomplished everyone is on an individual level. Standout, of course is vocalist Megan de Klerk who sings as if her life depends on it and holds nothing back. She’s not a “belter” in that she goes full-throttle and stays there – she has a range and a depth of emotion to her singing that enhances her performance. And as you’ll quickly notice with her between-song patter, English may not be her first language, but she sings it flawlessly.

Just to give you some background on what you might have missed:

The band originated in 2016 at the pop program of the Amsterdam Conservatory and was founded by Megan de Klerk, Emiel de Nennie, Tessa Raadman, Sergio Escoda, and Jim Geurts. Escoda left the band just before the coronavirus pandemic in early 2020. Drummer Jim Geurts left the band in 2022 and was replaced by David Hoogerheide and Juen Schütt, respectively. The band creates nineties-inspired songs with an energetic attitude that they describe themselves as post-pop. In 2017, their debut single Supplies was released, and not long after, the group was included in the Serious Talent program by 3FM .

A year later, the band played at the Noorderslag festival , where they won the award for best act.  That year their debut album Fool for the Vibes was also released.

In October 2019, the single It’s Love but It’s Not Mine was named KINK XL.  The single was released during a tour of England .  They then released the single Had too Much in June , which was also named KINK XL.

On September 18, 2023, the band announced they were disbanding. Due to lockdowns and curfews during the coronavirus pandemic , the band lost momentum. The third album, Be My Reactor , released on September 8, felt like a mission to De Nennie. Meanwhile, the members were also already working on other projects.  On October 17, 2023, a sold-out farewell concert was held at pop venue Bitterzoet in Amsterdam.

For all the bands that weathered the isolation COVID brought with it there were many that didn’t – sadly, EUT were one of them.

Here’s a reminder.
