More Americana this weekend. The Radio premier of Walter Piston’s Symphony Number 3, broadcast on April 13, 1948. With a long and mutually admirable relationship, Piston dedicated his newest symphony to the memory of Serge Koussevitsky‘s widow. Serge Koussevitsky, long a champion of Piston’s work, performed numerous world premiers in Boston, and helped establish Walter Piston as one of the front-line in 20th Century Contemporary composers.

Here is that Radio premier, as it was heard on April 13, 1948.
