Over to Paris this week for a look back at Spring 2014 with a concert featuring the French National Orchestra, guest conducted by Tadaaki Otaka and featuring pianist Romain Descharmes in music of Toru Takemitsu, Sergei Rachmaninov and Dmitri Shostakovich. Opening with the 1957 Requiem by the legendary 20th century Japanese composer Toru Takemitsu. followed by a performance of the Rhapsody on A Theme of Paganini by Sergei Rachmaninov, featuring celebrated French Pianist Romain Descharmes. And finally Tadaaki Otaka and the orchestra conclude with Shostakovich’s memorable Symphony Number 5. Recorded, as always by the venerable and much appreciated Radio France Musique on May 18th of this year, the concert comes in at just a shade under 90 minutes. Should go very well with rush hour traffic. Enjoy.
