Amyl and The Sniffers
Amy Taylor of Amyl And The Sniffers – Photographer Josh Pike nailed it all in one shot.

Amyl and The Sniffers from the Freak Valley Festival on July 29th of this year – recorded and preserved for posterity by West German Radio.

Taking a break from the sedate this morning and going for the adrenaline, Amyl and The Sniffers have been relentlessly gigging ever since they got started with their debut album in 2018 (they officially got rolling in 2016 but exploded in 2018). COVID and The Lockdown curtailed some of the madness and it probably worked wonders for the onslaught of pent-up energy Amy Taylor finally let loose when lockdown was over. Lucky-lucky us.

Amyl and The Sniffers are Australian, and happily consider themselves a sort of hybrid PubPunk which, as Amy puts it “Is where we spent most of our time”. The band’s name, in case you didn’t know (or forgot) derives from Amyl Nitrate – that haywire concoction that, when snorted makes your head explode and heart race and ends up with a splitting headache – a sensation Amy Taylor likens to the band’s live show. There is truth in advertising.

Needless to say, they’ve been doing most all of the festivals throughout the season, even hitting Coachella and taking it from there.

In March of this year, Amyl and the Sniffers announced a US headline tour set for July and August of 2024, in addition to their US shows as support for Foo Fighters. In May 2024, the band released the two singles “U Should Not Be Doing That”, the first single from their upcoming album, and “Facts”, after which they announced a UK and European Headline tour set for November. On August 21st, the group announced that their third album, Cartoon Darkness, will be released on the 25th of. The single and music video for “Chewing Gum” was released on the same day.

If you aren’t familiar (and I can’t really imagine you wouldn’t be), here is what they were up to this Summer in Europe. They are still on tour and will end up in November in Athens. And then gearing up for another tour starting. in June of 2025.

Buckle up – it’s Hump Day.
