Ganges – in concert at La Radio Encendida Festival,Madrid – March 19, 2023 – Radio Nacional España –
Staying in Spain this week and marvelling at the notion of all this happening in one day over an 11 hour period. The three artists I’ve featured so far are a small percentage of who played at this festival, which officially kicked off Spring in Madrid.
Ganges, aka Teresa Gutiérrez, has been making a name for herself on the Iberian Indie/Experimental/Techno music scene since 2017. She’s involved in many projects of which her solo endeavors are only one part of this brilliant, talented and versatile artist.
Loosely classified as Bedroom Pop infused with R&B, Ganges is one of those fresh breaths of life that further support the notion that modern music, the current non-mainstream rock and Pop scenes are far from dead and are, in fact popping up everywhere.
Ganges (Teresa Gutiérrez) has been recognized as one of the great promising lights of the national music scene, but her voice continues to cling to naturalness, honesty and hard work as the only way to overcome adversity. “People have no idea how to get started in this world, I still have a lot of doubts,” he says openly while analyzing the different ways to achieve success in a sector whose structure has changed since the emergence of streaming platforms and social networks.
Her confinement via the COVID Pandemic led her to connect more with her audience, and to throw herself headlong into the unknown world of music production. “It has been like a class project,” she explains when she talks about her new album, which she brought to life in just three months after a delicate moment on a personal level. Video games, love and even Okuda San Miguel himself come together in the eight songs that make up her new LP, created always keeping in mind two aspects that she considers fundamental: authenticity and listening to what people like. “I don’t usually speak well of my albums, but I love this one.”
Add this to your list of “Must Check Out” albums and artists – and Press Play in the meantime for a delightful romp through the surreal soundscape of Ganges.
