Over to Tokyo tonight for a performance by the NHK Symphony, conducted by Paavo Järvi and featuring Spanish violinist Leticia Moreno in music of Prokofiev, Bach and Rachmaninoff.
Beginning with the Second Violin Concerto by Sergei Prokofiev, followed by an encore by Bach and ending the concert with a performance of the Second Symphony by Rachmaninoff. The concret was recorded in the venerable Suntory Hall in Tokyo on February 5, 2020 as part of their subscription Concert series.
Recognised as a truly exciting and versatile violinist, Leticia Moreno “captivates audiences and critics alike with her natural charisma, virtuosity and deep interpretative force”.
Leticia Moreno has appeared with the most renowned conductors such as Zubin Mehta, Esa-Pekka Salonen, Paavo Järvi, Vladimir Ashkenazy, Christoph Eschenbach, Krzysztof Penderecki, Andrés Orozco-Estrada, Josep Pons, Gustavo Gimeno, Peter Eotvos, and Andrey Boreyko amongst others. She has also performed with leading orchestras such as Wiener Symphoniker, St Petersburg Philharmonic, Philharmonia Orchestra, Mahler Chamber Orchestra, Washington’s National Symphony, Orchestre Philharmonique du Luxembourg, Orquesta Sinfónica Simón Bolívar, and is a regular guest with most of the major Spanish orchestras.
Paavo Järvi is the founder and artistic director of both the Pärnu Music Festival and the Estonian Festival Orchestra. Järvi first guest-conducted the Tonhalle Orchestra in 2009, and returned in December 2016. In May 2017, the Tonhalle-Orchester Zürich announced the appointment of Järvi as its next chief conductor, effective with the 2019–2020 season, with an initial contract of five years. In December 2022, the orchestra announced an extension of Järvi’s contract as its chief conductor through the 2028-2029 season.
Outside of Europe, in June 2012, the NHK Symphony Orchestra announced the appointment of Järvi as its chief conductor, beginning in the 2015–2016 season, with an initial contract of three years, which was extended a further three years to 2021. In November 2019, the NHK Symphony announced an extension of his contract through August 2022, at which time he stood down as its chief conductor.
