As the tributes continue to pour in and as reactions range from sorrow to celebration (sorrow for his passing – celebrating that he lived), I thought it would be appropriate to run a concert by fellow South African anti-apartheid activist and freedom fighter, Miriam Makeba. Known to millions as Mama Africa, Miriam Makeba put the struggle to music and brought the message to people all over the world.
Here is a concert she performed at The Hollywood Bowl in 1962, sharing the bill with Dave Brubeck and The Kingston Trio.
