Redolent for Wednesday morning – recorded in session for BBC Scotland around September 2024.

Further evidence there is a lot of new music going on in the world and a lot of it is coming from places like Glasgow and Dublin and Paris and Stockholm – everywhere there is an urban landscape to be had, it’s got a scene developing and it’s healthy beyond belief. It couldn’t come at a better time. This session comes around the time they won (or about to win) the prestigious Album of The Year award for their debut album Dinny Greet, which has been enthusiastically received by press and fans.

The electronic indie-pop record was described by industry executives as “a resonant and powerful body of work” and “one of the most memorable debuts by a Scottish band in recent years”.

The website Blurred Culture caught the band during their 2023 SXSW debut and was equally enthusiastic as much as the crowd was:

“Redolent is an Edinburgh-based band comprising of Danny and Robin Herbert, Andrew Turnbull, Robbie White, and Alice Hancock. They made some noise with their debut EP “Make Big Money Fast Online Now” as people were drawn to their unique sound which merges electronic and indie rock music seamlessly. This performance for the British Music Embassy was my first tine catching them live.

I loved the band’s eclectic mix of influences, ranging from electronic to indie rock to hip-hop, results in a unique and dynamic sound that is both fresh and familiar. Their use of off-kilter beats and glitchy textures of coupled with the moody… dare I day casual… singing of their lead singer, really had me catching a mood. I think I read somewhere that one of their influences of LCD Soundsystem and I could definitely hear that influence can be heard in their use of synths and danceable grooves, which bring a sense of energy and fun to their music. I found their sound… specifically their instrumentation… both quirky and intriguing. It’s a refreshing blend of diverse influences, resulting in a sound that is both familiar and innovative. With their catchy hooks, playful experimentation, and dynamic energy, they are sure to captivate listeners from a variety of backgrounds and musical preferences.”

So you get the idea a momentum has been building, which finally paid off late last year.

In case you missed it or want to hear it again, here is their BBC Scotland session to give you an idea.
