The Noise Who Runs
Ian Pickering And Felipe Goes – otherwise know as The Noise Who Runs. Excursions in Hyper EDM.

The Noise Who Runs – Takes A Long Cold Look And Then The Kitchen Sink from ‘Preteretrospective’ lp – TNWR Records – 2023

Continuing on the trail for new sounds, tonight it’s a track from the latest album by The Noise Who Runs, Preteretrospective which came out in April of this year.

A heady mashup of Indie, EDM and Trip-hop (with a gentle nudge in the direction of Psych) from this duo of former Sneaker Pimps Ian Pickering and French-Brazilian guitar virtuoso Felipe Goes. You would be led to believe this is a combination hard to get off the ground. But no – The Noise Who Runs is a seamless excursion through a lot of sounds and tapestries and it’s effortless – and highly satisfying on a number of emotional levels. Maybe it’s the blending of EDM with guitar; the contrasts between a certain cool detachment by way of electronica, and the warm-blooded, highly evocative pulsing emotion by way of Felipe Goes.

Like most all music, it’s in the ear of the beholder – everybody comes to something with a different set of perspectives. That’s what makes music a deeply personal experience that at times you don’t really want to dance to, but rather soak up like an invigorating bath.

Prteteretrospective is just such a bath. Doesn’t stay in one place too long – goes on an investigative journey and arrives at its destination refreshed. Takes A Long Cold Look And Then The Kitchen Sink is a lighter, almost poppy take on things – just one more aspect to an interesting and highly satisfying endeavor.

Like so many artists these last few years, the COVID era (as it’s coming to be known) was a huge setback but also a great opportunity to explore and shape new ideas. In the case of The Noise Who Runs, it gave Ian Pickering and Felipe Goes an opportunity to dig deeper and test waters. I think it’s safe to say the results speak for themselves.

Enjoy Take A Long Cold Look And then The Kitchen Sink and head over to their Bandcamp page and investigate the rest of the album which can be had for 7 Euros.

It’s worth it.
