No sooner is the tribute run for Bobby Keys, but word of another passing of another Rock icon. Ian McLagan, whose keyboards formed the backbone for the Small Faces in the mid-60s, and later as The Faces in the early 70s, passed away earlier this morning at the age of 69 from complications of a stroke suffered the previous day.
McLagan’s playing virtually defined Rock classics, with such memorable songs as Stay With Me as well as Rod Stewart‘s You Wear It Well and countless others indelibly associated with Rod Stewart and The Faces.
Inducted into the Rock Hall of Fame in 2012, McLagan’s career spanned some 50 years, and was still going full-steam at the time of his fatal stroke. It was, as someone remarked, a life well lived.
Truly, it was.
