Bryan’s Magic Tears – A bit of French Shoegaze is good for the soul – trust me.

Taking a slight detour for this Lunch Hour and heading over to The Levitation France Festival in Angers, France for a set by Bryan’s Magic Tears – recorded April 12, 2025.

Bryan’s Magic Tears, a band named after an obscure Parisian Acid Dealer, transported the influence of classic shoegaze and Midwestern indie labels of the 1990s to next-millennium Paris, France, they debuted their fuzzy, snarling indie pop/rock on an eponymous album in 2016. Adding glimpses of driving dance-rock, they followed up with likewise scuzzy, melodic sets including 2021’s Vacuum Sealed.

Founded by Benjamin Dupont (Dame Blanche) in Paris in 2014, Bryan’s Magic Tears presented their first Same Titles album, on XVIII Records in late 2016. The group’s second album, 2018’s 4 AM, marked their debut for Born Bad Records and solidified the lineup of Dupont, drummer Paul Ramon, bassist/vocalist Lauriane Petit, and guitarists Raphael Berrichon and Medhi Briand, all with respectable indie-scene CVs. Co-produced by Dupont and Marc Portheau (Kanye West, BMT labelmate Marietta), their next album, Vacuum Sealed, arrived on Born Bad in late 2021. – Thanks Marcy Donelson
