I realize, if you spend any time on this site you may find yourself getting involved in a lot of musical gear changing in the course of a day and sometimes it’s a little too jarring. But a lot of you don’t seem to mind it a bit and, if you’re like me, there’s a place on your record shelf for Ry Cooder albums just as much as there is Alicia De Larrocha. The only pre-requisite is that the music’s good and the point-of-view is solid.
So with that in mind, I am inviting you to dive into one of the stalwarts of Modern Folk/Roots/Eclectic/Experimental/Country-Blues music, actively plying his trade, to this day, and who has been with us for a good-long time and has always been a source of wonderful inspiration and comfort.
Ry Cooder fits nicely into that undefinable portion of the musical spectrum where all things are possible and mixing it up is as easy as tying a shoe.
In this case, he’s playing to a very appreciative crowd at the 1979 Cambridge Folk Festival. And as always, BBC Radio was there to put it on tape.
So enjoy this one while you’re putting the dishes away and figuring out what to do with the wrapping paper – or if you just feel like clearing your head.
