
Su Hyun Park, violin – Camerata Europeana – Radoslav Szulc, conductor – In Concert – February 2, 2012 – RTS Espace 2 –
Over to Gstaad this week for a concert by the acclaimed Camerata Europeana led by Radoslav Szulc and featuring South Korean virtuoso violinist Su Hyun Park in a program of music by Dvorak and Sibelius – it was recorded at Saanen Church in Gstaad on February 9, 2012 by RTS Espace 2.
Su Hyun Park joined the New York Philharmonic in September 2017. She previously served as assistant concertmaster of the Grant Park Symphony Orchestra, as well as concertmaster of the Music Alps Festival Orchestra, Juilliard Orchestra, New York Classical Players, and Music Academy of the West Orchestra.
Park made her solo debut with the Juilliard Pre-College Orchestra. She swept top prizes in competitions in South Korea, including the Taegu Broadcasting Corporation Music Competition, and appeared as a soloist with the Taegu Philharmonic Orchestra. Her other accolades include grand prizes from the Riverside Symphonia’s Caprio Young Artists, Crescendo International Music, Monmouth Symphony’s Goldwasser Young Artist Concerto, and Kumho Prodigy Music competitions.
A native of Seoul, South Korea, Su Hyun Park studied there with Hai-Yup Yang, Ho-Young Pi, and Seong-Yeon Cho. She continued her studies at The Juilliard School, where she received her bachelor and master degrees, with Hyo Kang, Ronald Copes, Donald Weilerstein, and Li Lin. She subsequently worked with then Philharmonic Concertmaster Glenn Dicterow and Acting Principal, Second Violin Group, Lisa Kim at the Manhattan School of Music’s Orchestral Performance Program, receiving her professional studies certificate.
Radoslav Szulc was born in Poland into the third generation of a family of violinists and received his first violin lessons from his mother, Halszka Süss. At the age of ten he made his solo debut with theMendelssohn Violin Concerto. He continued his studies under Irena Dubinska in Warsaw, Jens Ellermann in Hannover, Yfrah Neaman at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London as well as under Herman Krebbers in Amsterdam. Radoslaw Szulc received numerous awards in international competitions, for instance at the Wieniawski Competition in Poland, at the Sarasate Competition in Pamplona, at the Freiburger Spohr Competition, at the Sibelius Competition in Helsinki and at the
Wiener Kreisler Competition. In 1996 he received the 1st prize at the International Violin Competition of Scheveningen in Holland for his interpretation of the Brahms Violin Concerto and in 1992 he was awarded with the Henryk Szeryng Memorial Prize for the best Mozart interpretation.
Solo performances with leading international orchestras led the violinist throughout Europe to Asia. He has given concerts in Helsinki (Finlandia Hall), in London (Barbican Hall), in Amsterdam (Concertgebouw) and in Munich (Herkulessaal). In 1998 he became the first concertmaster of the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra. He has been the artistic director of the Chamber Orchestra of the Bavarian Symphony Orchestra since 2000. Many radio and television recordings as well as CD productions including works by Sarasate and Tchaikovsky document his wide-ranging artistic skill.
