– Tori Amos – Live At Baloise Session – November 6, 2015 – SRF –
With over 16 albums to her credit, and a career spanning over 40 years, Tori Amos is considered the Grande Dame, of Indie. But she’s a lot more than that – with musical interests embracing Baroque Pop, Chamber Pop, Alternative, Classical, and Electronica, you could surmise that Tori Amos has a corner on the Renaissance Woman market.
With a musical journey that began at 5 with a full scholarship to attend Johns Hopkins University Peabody Institute, Tori Amos has led an extraordinary musical life. She was probably also the youngest College Dropout, having been expelled at the ripe old age of 11 for insisting on playing by ear and because of her interest in Rock music.
Needless to say, she is an American institution and this concert, recorded just a few weeks ago at the legendary Baloise Session Festival, gives some indication of just how extraordinary and versatile she is.
Just a little over an hour – she runs through an impressive list on songs, with an audience giving rapt attention in return.
This is an especially good concert, because the sound is excellent and the mix is perfect. SRF, the Swiss radio outlet responsible for running the concerts throughout the world, did a phenomenal job – and it would be safe to say, no one felt like going home.
If you haven’t heard from Tori Amos in a while and was wondering what was up to, here is a great introduction and a thoroughly engrossing performance as a reminder. In a world where Artists have a short career life, listening to Tori Amos some 30 years after she initially transitioned over to a solo career, is a revelation.
A good time was had by all, I’m sure – now its your turn to check out Tori Amos, if you aren’t familiar, and time to re-familiarize yourself if you remember discovering her in the 90s.
