– Dire Straits – Live at Vallehovin Stadium, Oslo Norway – July 30, 1992 –

Dire Straits were an answer to the Techno-laden 80s. A breath of fresh air for an audience not quite sold on New Wave and getting weary of Punk. Fronted by Mark Knopfkler, with a combination of guitar virtuosity and Dylanesque voice, Dire Straits quickly gained prominence and worldwide appeal all through the 1980s.

By the time this concert was performed in July of 1992, the band had undergone changes. They had dissolved a year earlier and by the following year had reformed, at least for a time. Since musical tastes were changing, Dire Strait‘s popularity had ebbed, but at their core, they were still the engaging band which catapulted to fame in the early 80s with Sultans Of Swing.

Dire Straits broke up for good in 1995 and Knopfler has continued on a solo career. Despite a few attempts at a reunion, it hasn’t happened and it’s not likely to happen anytime soon.

So for now – here’s a slice of what had everybody excited in the 80s – they were a mainstay of MTV for quite a while. And if you missed them the first time around, here’s a chance to make up for lost time.

Play loud and enjoy the new week.
